STP Killer hill mastered

22 03 2008

True I only had 25 miles under my belt rather than the distance from UW stadium Seattle to Puyallup but I did not make it up the killer hill 8 years ago when I was at the peak of my training and on the 2 day STP.  I do not want to brag but I think I am doing more hill work this year and may have a little more up hill strength.   No rain Sun was beautiful as Mt. Rainear come out and blessed the day. It was very hard to remember that today we remember that Jesus the Christ was in the tume and considered dead.  Get in touch with the mystery of rebirth and the power of the Universe coming alive creating and blessing each of us.

Black rain hard hill

17 03 2008

Hard ride as about 1/4 of the way I lost my 3x derailer . Thus I finished the ride with 8 gears instead of 24. Oh yes I set it in low so the hills up were the same but the hills down were not as fast. Did I tell you before I started all of this I had the recumbent tuned and all the cables replaced.

5:30 Am rain and black

10 03 2008

I road my recubent to the monday morning breakfast.  Rain Dark cold.  Computer was not functioning. It ask me while I was getting ready in the garage if I was inside. I said yes and that killed the gps and I was not able to recover from that error.  I believe the fix is to trun the computer completely off and then back on so It repeats the GPS  set up.

Good work out and a good start to the week.

Gallping Gertie’s grandson ride

7 03 2008

For those of you who can not figure this out I rode from Lakewood Wa through Steilacom, up chambers creek canyon,UP,  Tacoma, over the new Tacoma Narrows bridge, Gig harbor along the sound to Fox Island and back.  Gallping gertie was the WW II bridge that blew over during some strong winds. http://www.ketchum.org/bridgecollapse.html.

A wonderful ride. Note the 90 + miles this week over the suggestedmiles and 2 long days rather than 3 shorter rides.  Making progress on this STP Thing.

I might also call this my Chilly Hilly as it was up and down a lot.  I have a hard time going out on Sundays because of my obligations with music at several Churches and the Prisons in the area.

Beautiful clear day around Mount Rainer

5 03 2008

51 miles and an average of 9.75 (automatic turn off with stops).  Lakewood wa. The mountain was to my right and “out”  Locals say the mountain is out when we can see it.  Generally it is covered with clouds even if it is not raining.  It is truly a clear day when it is out and it was lo all day.  Spanaway to the Roy Y on my left and clear.  Roy y to Roy I could not see the mountain because of all the trees along the road.  Truly a beautiful place to ride, wide shoulder which had recently been power sweept so smooth  flat asphalt and no rocks or glass to contend with.  Roy to Mckinna and on to Yelm The mountain was out but frome time to time obscured by the trees generally on my left.  Yelm Nesqualy reservation No mountain as the forest is very dense.  Nesqualy  reservation to Nesqualy delta Dense forest but beautiful. Delta to Dupont  Mountain to my back but going hard and good Part is a clime out of the river delta sea level to the plateau where Dupont and Fort Lewis is located.  Dupont back side of North Fort Lewis to Lakewood My legs are so exhausted I had to stop and walk to get the kinks out.  I had made it up all the hills even the grade out of the delta with out stopping but I was into the 48 and 49 mile and realy bushed I think I get this way more now that I am over 65.  In 2000 I was not as fast but I did not get as exhausted on the same ride.  Oh well better to be exhausted and doing it than the alternative.

All in all a very good long ride.

Fororunner 201 zxcwerq@@5

27 02 2008

You may notice that there is no average speed or total time.  Well the computer sat on the shelve running all day yesterday.  So todays ride though wonderful with some good flat speeds of up to 18 mph  and up the whole butte hill from the hard side I am missing the time and mph data. Oh before the STP I trust I will have the thing under controle.  Have a woderful sweating day.

25 02 2008

Time approximate as the forerunner was not on all the way. No natural light. Added new strobe light white and read lights made me very viable

Hard to get going but I had made the commitment to the other people that I was going to bicycle there. The ride back was wonderful sun, no bad traffic and invegerating.

chambers creek road

15 02 2008

I made it up chambers creek road but had to push up a couple others.  In the 30-40 so a little nippie but had a good layered system and was able to cut the inselation once I got warmed up.  Playing with the Garmin 201.  I am not getting elevations or assent so I went into the custom set up screens and added % grade and assent.  I am not sure how this is saved in the history. Total assent and grade I think or perhaps the max grade and total assent?  If anyone knows let me know as I need to follow how I am improving on the hills.  The STP is not known for its hills but there are a couple and I know that is a weakness for me.

made it up bute hill

13 02 2008

Last time I did the stp and trained for it I did not get up butte hill, near my house,  utile late in my training.  It was a perfect day in Lakewood south of Seattle wa.  Sun shine on me the whole way and in the 40ies.  I made it up the killer hill and several lesser gints in my area.  Wonderful ride and I feel wonderful.  How can it get better for a Grandpa.  New boy from my addopted son last night.  Had to have a C section but all went well. Now he learns what all that fun was about and what long nights are like :> ) .
